Securecom Signs 5-Year Partnership With New Zealand Health Group – Disabled People Benefit From ICT And Health Sector Leaders’ Tech Innovation
Auckland, New Zealand, May 3, 2022
People with disability will soon benefit from the 5-year partnership agreement between award-winning IT leader, Securecom, and New Zealand Health Group, the country’s largest network of community health, disability, and wellbeing providers.
The arrangement involves the implementation of Securecom’s industry-leading TotalNET Cloud Based Network solution across over 200 of New Zealand Health Group’s NZCare and Geneva Community Living community homes for people with disabilities. This will enhance the service provided to the people they support by enabling more effective and synchronised communication across their community homes.
“Consolidating the services from various IT providers we work with into one simple and innovative solution from Securecom will increase connection and add further to the quality of support that NZCare and Geneva Community Living provide to disabled people, their whānau and our workforce,” says Vicki Stewart, Director of Disability and Social Services at New Zealand Health Group.
Securecom proposed a standardised cloud-based SD-WAN and Wi-Fi solution nationwide across all the Group’s community homes that was smart, simple, secure, and would provide an excellent end user experience with consistent and optimum WAN connectivity.
Key elements of the solution requirements were that it had to be designed for SaaS and private/public cloud, with granular insights and control into the network and application performance down to an end user level. Other critical requirements were site resilience, DDoS protection, and Enterprise Security.
“We are delighted to be selected to partner with New Zealand Health Group after a rigorous request for proposal process involving key major network operators in New Zealand. Our TotalNET solution is increasingly being used by New Zealand businesses to lower their total cost of ownership, improve their security and end user experience as they move into a cloud-centric world,” says Greg Mikkelsen, Sales and Marketing Director at Securecom.
Peter Radich, Chief Digital Officer for New Zealand Health Group, says, “The decision to partner with Securecom was based on a number of factors. We liked the consistency of the approach nationwide, ensuring a standardised solution that is easy to manage and cost-effective. Given the nature of what we do, security is critically important. We liked the security aspect of their solution with a firewall at every site combined with 4G backup in the inevitable case of broadband outages. Finally, having our network looked after by our existing IT service desk with insights from the end user, right through to the data source, will ensure an optimised experience for all our teams nationwide.”
“The TotalNET Cloud Network we are implementing for New Zealand Health Group will improve the security, visibility, and control of their entire IT environment. It’s an exciting project to be involved in on many levels. One of Securecom’s core values is “Caring”, so we are thrilled to partner with an organisation that embodies that daily to support people with disability,” adds Mikkelsen.
Securecom signs 3-year Partnership with MediaWorks
Auckland, New Zealand, March 15, 2022
Securecom today announced it has entered into a 3-year partnership with MediaWorks to implement Securecom’s TotalCARE Managed Service Desk (MSD) to provide a high quality IT support service for MediaWorks end users.
MediaWorks is New Zealand’s leading radio and outdoor media company with over 2.4 million weekly listeners and over 5,000 outdoor touch points nationwide. The company has more than 700 staff across 23 locations nationwide and were looking to partner with an IT services company to provide a consistent, high quality IT support experience nationwide, across both its corporate and broadcast IT environments.
TotalCARE MSD is Securecom’s comprehensive IT support solution that gives companies monthly price certainty for high quality IT support services to keep users safe, operational and up-to-date.
MediaWorks Technology & Product Director Ilyas Bardak says, “The decision to partner with Securecom was based on a number of factors. We liked the consistency of approach nationwide ensuring our people receive a high quality experience wherever they are based. Our business is rapidly evolving, and we need partners who can keep pace with our own aspirations and keep investing and growing the partnership.
“In Securecom we see a local business with the ability to make its own decisions and customise solutions to suit each client. We were impressed with Securecom’s willingness to invest in its people so they can upskill to support our specific IT needs given we have a combination of traditional corporate IT as well as broadcast infrastructure. We look forward to working with the Securecom team and continuing our journey of transformation.”
Greg Mikkelsen, Sales and Marketing Director at Securecom comments:
“We are thrilled to be selected to partner with MediaWorks and be part of their journey of transformation and adding value to their nationwide team. We are a NZ owned and operated business and were up against some stiff international and local competition, so it is pleasing to see MediaWorks supporting a fellow kiwi business. We have grown rapidly over the past five years and partnering with companies like MediaWorks demonstrates the scale of our business and the breadth of technical skills we have in a market which is very resource challenged.”
“Our TotalCARE solution delivers an excellent service experience, with an accurate picture of costs and efficiency drivers, which will help MediaWorks to make informed business decisions. We pride ourselves on our award-winning Total Insights governance and reporting model that will assist MediaWorks in remediating IT issues and driving down their TCO (Total Cost of Ownership). Both companies are aligned on what needs to be done and we can’t wait to get started.”

The Microsoft New Zealand Partner Awards recognise innovative partners who are demonstrating inventive use of digital technology and are open to all Microsoft partners big and small. While 2021 was a challenging year, that didn’t stop Microsoft’s incredible partners from delivering some excellent work for their customers that have helped them transform, boost their resilience, or support their customers and all New Zealanders to achieve more. Securecom’s work to support Mercy Hospice is a perfect example of this.

Matt Bostwick, Partner Director at Microsoft New Zealand says, “Usually something like receiving new laptops or devices is seen as purely about hardware – but it’s really about the change that hardware can create for real human beings. Recognising that is why Securecom so richly deserves this award. By equipping Mercy Hospice’s teams with portable Surface devices that reduce the amount of paperwork and admin involved in running a hospice, Securecom has doubled the number of people they can help. Microsoft On-Prem vulnerabilities, again.
New patch Tuesday revealed a new critical “Remote code Execution vulnerability” within On-Prem Microsoft exchange servers. Successful exploitation could allow an actor to gain remote code execution with elevated privileges on the impacted device. This can facilitate the deployment of malware to enable continued access to the compromised system, even after the system has been patched.
Microsoft Exchange Online is not known to be affected by these vulnerabilities. While there is no information available that indicates these vulnerabilities have been exploited, Securecom is aware of multiple actors exploiting previously identified Exchange vulnerabilities (hafnium) that were patched by Microsoft in March 2021.
CVE-2021-28480 has a staggering 9.8 cvss (Common Vulnerability Scoring System) value and it is advised to patch your Microsoft Exchange 2013, 2016 and 2019 Servers as soon as possible (read: immediately).
Securecom immediately stood up a rapid response team. We alerted all our customers with on-prem MS Exchange servers of the possible threat and initialised a remediation plan.
If you need any assistance with remediation of this vulnerability, please do reach out to us. More information can be found on Microsoft’s update guide page.
